FAQ

  • How much does it cost to play for ACES?

The cost depends on which level team a player is on. We offer local (3-month) to national (6-month) level teams. Cost varies $850 - $2,650.

  • What if a player is a multi-sport athlete?

We will make every effort to accommodate athletes with prior known athletic or academic commitments. Athletes or parents should notify the coach as soon as they are aware of a conflict. Only conflicts with school activities will be excused. Non-school activities will be considered on a case by case basis. Unexcused absences may affect playing time.  Mid-Michigan ACES Volleyball Club understands the importance of school activities, and participating on a Local team allows such flexibility.

  • How is playing time determined?

We do not guarantee equal playing time on any team or at any event.  You are paying for instruction time and reps during practices and the opportunity to earn playing time.

Playing time for athletes is determined by attendance, attitude, effort, performance, the athlete's potential, the team's needs at the moment and is left solely to the discretion of the coach.

The “coaching decision” is not up for debate or question; however, athletes are encouraged to talk with their coach, at practice, if they have concerns or questions.

  • What is the inclement weather policy?

In case of inclement weather, any announcement of practice cancellations will be made up to 2 hours prior to practice. Coaches will contact you regarding the status of practice in the case of a weather cancellation.  However, in all cases it is the responsibility of each parent to determine if it is safe to travel and attend practice. It is recommended that you contact your coach to check the status of practice and inform them of your decision. Due to the limited amount of gym time available in the winter seasons, if practice is cancelled due to weather it will not be rescheduled.

Also, we can often encounter winter weather for weekend tournaments or games. Tournament directors very rarely cancel tournaments, so please account for this when planning travel time to events.  Please let your coach know asap if you do not plan to attend a competition event.

  • What age group does my player fall under?

  • What is included in the club dues?

Fees cover all tournament entry fees, court rental fees, coaches fees, coaches travel, 2 jerseys, 2 practice tees, 1 spandex and 1 sweatshirt. Players may be expected to acquire additional items depending on their team. If a player competes in both the winter and spring seasons, they will potentially keep the same number / uniforms for the following season.

  • How many players are placed on a team?

The amount of players for each team will be set during the tryout process and will be  determined based on the make-up of each individual team. On average, the number will be  close to 10.

  • Can requests be made to put players on teams together?

While we will do our best to honor requests, we cannot guarantee requests of this nature. We have to consider a  number of factors when we create teams.

  • How many teams will there be per season?

While we would like to have as many teams in each age group as we can, it will be dependent on filling positions and available coaches, as well as available court space.

  • Are refunds offered for injuries or other circumstances?

Generally speaking, no.  However, each case can be reviewed individually and exceptions can be made.  SportsEngine does offer an option to purchase season insurance, which means families can be refunded their tuition if their player gets injured and cannot continue.  This can be purchased when completing your payment options during the registration process.

If a family makes the personal choice to discontinue for any reason, we will not refund.

  • What is 'Power League'?

The basic premise of a Power League is to provide a core schedule of matched competition in a drivable geographical area. The word “power” might be misleading, as it seems to indicate an elite level of competition. “Matched competition” means that teams are playing against other teams similar to their level of experience. Teams at all experience levels realize the benefits of a power league.

The first weekend is for seeding, so how a team finishes the first weekend determines where they are grouped for bracket play the second weekend. Teams are grouped together with teams who finished with the same record during the previous weekend and each week a predetermined number of teams are moved up or down based on their performance. Ideally a power league will be scheduled in sites that are a reasonable drive for all teams.

  • What happens if there is a missed payment?

*New club policy: All accounts MUST BE CURRENT (no more than 10 days past due) in order to participate in practice and tournaments. If a payment is past due and other arrangements have not been made with the club director, the player will be considered ineligible until the account is settled. This will be strictly adhered to for 2026.
